Inside each healthy tooth lies its nerve and blood supply. When a tooth’s nerve is inflamed or infected, symptoms may include pain, sensitivity to hot or cold water, discoloration and swelling or soreness in the gums.
If left untreated, an inflamed nerve will become infected and die. In the past, the only treatment was extraction, but now the tooth can be saved with endodontic (root canal) treatment.
Root canal treatment involves removing infected tissue from within the tooth, thus saving the tooth and avoiding an extraction. Root canal treatment may take place over one or several appointments, and the tooth may require a crown after completion.
At Dr. Ron T. Williamson and Associates, PLC, we ensure that your root canal is as painless as possible.
